Preparing for the final exam: 4 Part Workshop on Death & Dying

  • Ananda Temple 2171 El Camino Real Palo Alto, CA, 94306 United States (map)

Four-week series • Apr 3rd - Apr 24th

Death is often called the final exam. It is in a sense the most important moment of our lives

The Bhagavad Gita says that the thought uppermost in the mind at the time of death will determine whether our future takes us, upward toward greater spiritual freedom, or sideways toward further involvement in worldly attachments, or downward toward greater ignorance.

All fear at its root is in some form the fear of death. So, to face into it directly has the potential to take us to complete freedom in this life.

What happens when we die? What do we know from NDEs (near death experiences) of the many who have crossed over and come back to share their experience? Is it truly possible to die consciously? Let us together dive into these important questions.

In this 4 part workshop we will

  • Discuss Yogananda's teachings on death and the dying process

  • Hear inspiring stories of how different people have bravely faced into the process with courage and grace

  • Participate in guided experiences and activities to learn how to develop detachment and dispassion

  • Learn how to support others in the dying process

As Elizabeth Kugler-Ross famously said, "It's only when we truly know and understand that we have a limited time on earth - and that we have no way of knowing when our time is up, we will then begin to live each day to the fullest, as if it was the only one we had."

Death can be our greatest teacher, and we don't have to wait until the final moment to learn the lessons!

Cost $60 for the series (Contributing members of Ananda are welcome to join the class in-person free of cost. Sign up required to receive zoom link and recordings)
