*Mahasamadhi: a great yogi’s final, conscious exit from the body

Since Paramhamsa Yogananda’s passing on March 7 in 1952, this day has become a sacred occasion for all those whom his life has touched. Millions of people around the world have been touched by the life of Yogananda and inspired by his Autobiography of a Yogi.

We honor Yogananda on this sacred day with a talk about his life and teachings by Shanti, music, chanting, and meditation. Everyone is invited, if they wish, to come to the altar to offer an affirmation or vow as a “birthday gift” to the great yoga master. Newcomers and truthseekers who are not disciples of Yogananda may come up first to place a flower on the altar (bring a favorite flower, or offer one provided by us), followed by disciples and students who have made pledges to Yogananda and his teachings. A moving and devotional evening.
