Navigating Differences: Keys to Graceful and Compassionate Communication

  • Ananda Palo Alto 2171 El Camino Real Palo Alto, CA, 94306 United States (map)

Have you hesitated to have a tricky conversation with a friend as you fear it may lead to an argument?

Have you refrained from expressing yourself due to fear of possible disharmony?

Have your emotions or reactive process clouded an exchange leading to awkwardness or conflict?

Such situations may be all too familiar to a lot of us. Avoidance of crucial conversations is one of the most prevalent coping mechanisms that most people tend to resort to, and by its very nature is hard to be fully aware of, let alone correct.

This morning is an exploration of the spiritual principles that can help us use such opportunities for growth and expansion, through the awareness of our unlearned lessons.

As Yogis, mastery of the reactive process is our ultimate goal. When we are navigating differences or tricky interpersonal situations, this translates into being compassionate, calm, courageous and open hearted in all our exchanges.

Swami Kriyananda was the greatest example of all these qualities. We will review his honest and compassionate communication in various situations through the collection of his letters in the book "In divine friendship"

Bring your questions, and stories of such situations in your life. We will discuss and share with the group and help each other uplift every situation and see the best and the highest in everyone that we meet in our lives.
