In-person and livestream • includes special puja dinner
Join us for an evening observing Shivaratri, an annual tradition rooted in Indian yogic and spiritual heritage. Shivaratri is a devotional celebration of Shiva, often described as the Lord of Yogis. Shiva is symbolic of transformation, inner stillness, and the dissolution of ignorance.
Shivaratri is traditionally also a time for reflection, meditation, and releasing limiting patterns.
The evening includes:
Group chanting and music designed to support focus and meditative awareness
Storytelling and explanation of key symbols and traditions, including the origins and meaning of the Maha Mrityunjaya mantra
Mantra chanting and a fire ceremony
Optional offerings at the Shiva lingam and time for personal reflection and prayer
Extended periods of meditation later in the evening for those who wish to remain and go deeper
From 7-9pm, the program includes stories, chanting, mantra practice, and a traditional puja ceremony. Families and children are especially welcome during this time. The second half of the evening is more inward, with periods of chanting and longer meditations. Participants are welcome to stay until midnight, or leave at any time.
The main aarti (an offering of flame or light) takes place around 8:45 pm, followed by a traditional Indian dinner. There is no cost for dinner, and all are welcome.
