The birth of a great spiritual teacher bestows a blessing throughout the world. Figures such as Paramhansa Yogananda dedicate their lives to uplifting humanity, reminding each of us of our own highest potential and our capacity for inner freedom.
The anniversaries of a teacher’s birth and passing are especially powerful times to feel their inspiration and guidance.
Celebrate Yogananda’s birthday with music, chanting, meditation, and a talk about his life and universal teachings. All are invited to take part in a simple altar offering. Those who are new to Yogananda or simply exploring their own spiritual path may come forward first to offer a flower (you may bring one or use one provided), followed by longtime students and disciples.
Please join us for a heartfelt evening of inspiration and inner communion, guided by Nayaswami Shanti. All are welcome.
About Paramhansa Yogananda
Paramhansa Yogananda (1893–1952) was a pioneering spiritual teacher who helped introduce meditation and yoga philosophy to the modern world. Born in India, he came to the United States in 1920 and spent more than 30 years teaching practical, universal tools for finding peace, clarity, and inner strength. His Autobiography of a Yogi has become a spiritual classic.
Yogananda emphasized the harmony of all religions and taught that everyone—regardless of belief system—can experience a direct, personal connection with the Divine through meditation. His influence has reached across generations; Autobiography of a Yogi was famously the only book on Steve Jobs’s iPad, and copies were given to everyone who attended his memorial service.
Today, Yogananda is widely recognized as one of the most significant spiritual figures of the 20th century, inspiring millions seeking a deeper, more centered life.
