Join us for an evening kirtan (devotional chanting) as we chant to awaken the divine feminine presence within each of us. This evening kirtan will include chants by Paramhansa Yogananda and Swami Kriyananda.

Durga Puja honors Durga, the Divine feminine power (Shakti) and the ultimate victory of good over evil. In particular, this event celebrates Durga’s victory over the demon Mahishasura, the triumph of divine power over ego, ignorance, and darkness. Mahishasura was a powerful demon with the ability to change forms; he was granted a boon that no man or god could kill him. Emboldened with this power, he terrorized the heavens and the earth. In response, the gods combined their divine powers to create Durga, a fierce and radiant warrior goddess. Riding a lion and wielding weapons gifted by the gods, Durga fought Mahishasura in a fierce battle that lasted nine days and nights. On the tenth day, she slew him, restoring balance and dharma in the world.
