Harmonium Chanting for Beginners

  • Ananda Palo Alto 2171 El Camino Real Palo Alto, CA, 94306 United States (map)

Wednesday nights in person

Yogananda made chanting a central practice on the spiritual path when he said, “Chanting is half the battle”. He wrote chants with simple melodies and verses so anyone could sing them and uplift their consciousness.

He published many such chants in his book Cosmic Chants. Swami Kriyananda continued in this musical tradition and wrote hundreds of pieces of music including many chants.

Chanting is a practice accessible to everyone irrespective of musical talent. The harmonium is an instrument that is easy to play and its deep resonant sound offers support to singing without hesitation.

In this course, we will learn the basics of how to play the harmonium and sing some of these chants written by Yogananda and Swami Kriyananda.

If you have your own harmonium, we invite you to bring it. We have a few harmoniums available for students to borrow during the class.

If you have wanted to explore chanting as a practice to develop or deepen your devotion, this is the best place to start. We offer this course only once every couple of years - so, don't miss this opportunity!

If participating and you need a loaner harmonium, please write to Saranya before hand - saranya.lac@gmail.com

Cost $60, No cost for contributing members of Ananda
