In ancient Persia, Hadassah is an orphan raised by her uncle, living in the Jewish quarter of the city of Babylon. Meanwhile King Ahasuerus’ marriage to the vain and selfish Vashti has ended, and a new wife must be found. The most beautiful women of the kingdom are selected to meet the King. Hadassah is among them. But as a Jewess in a foreign land with powerful enemies to her faith, she conceals her true identity, taking the Babylonian name of Esther. The king falls in love and makes her queen. How does she survive with a man she has never met, in a strict royal court controlled by an evil prime minister who seeks to destroy her people?

Each year, Living Wisdom School presents a play based on the life of a spiritually great man or woman. Past years’ plays: Dalai Lama, Buddha, St. Francis, Jesus, and Martin Luther King. Every student, from kindergarten through 8th grade, is involved. This is a full-scale production, far exceeding in quality and complexity anything you would expect in a “school play.” There are four performances from which to choose. Come early, as seats fill VERY quickly. Teachers and their classes are welcome; call to reserve. For tickets or info, call (650) 462-8150.
