Living the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali

  • Ananda Temple 2171 El Camino Real Palo Alto, CA United States (map)

Wednesdays, Sept 2-30 • 7-8:30pm • drop-ins welcome
Cost: $60 for series, or $20 per class

Patanjali's Yoga Sutras are the ancient root from which the entire tree of yoga has grown. Yet for many students, they remain a dense, foreign text, with confusing translations that sound pedantic and distant.

Thanks to Paramhansa Yogananda and Swami Kriyananda, who demystified this ancient text, we can bring the Sutras down from the shelf and into our lives, exploring their profound applications to our meditation practice and spiritual journey.

Together we'll discover that Patanjali wasn't writing a philosophical puzzle. He was leaving us a clear and precise map for stilling the mind, awakening intuition, and transforming our consciousness from the inside out.

Each week we'll approach sections of the text broadly, and also through key sutras, to tune into the consciousness of Patanjali, and put specific teachings into practice through contemplative exercises, gentle asana, and pranayama practice.

Whether you're a longtime student of yoga philosophy or have never opened the Yoga Sutras before, this series will help you see them not as ancient history, but as a living guide.

Contributing members of Ananda are welcome to join the class in-person, free of cost.
